ZERO WASTE FEST:

A CUP-FREE 5K FUN RUN, 1 MILE WALK FUNDRAISER + RESOURCE FAIR AT SAN FRANCISCO’S HISTORIC CRISSY FIELD WILL PRODUCE ZERO WASTE.

The bag monster at Zero Waste Fest

San Francisco, CA. Zero Waste Fest is a FUNdraiser held by Bay Area nonprofit Race to Zero Waste and is a half-day of inspiring zero waste activities featuring top environmental organizations. This multi-generational, eco-educational event includes a 5-kilometer Fun Run, 1-mile walk around scenic Crissy Field Promenade Trail, and a Resource Fair located at Sports Basement in the Presidio.

This waste-free event will feature…

This waste-free event will feature music, yoga, zero waste raffle prizes, a wetsuit repair demonstration by City Surf Project, clothing swap by Azeco Design, repurposed t-shirt screen-printing by Stainable Ink, the opportunity to learn about plastic-free alternatives from Sea Hugger, a shoe donation drive, and many more exciting activities! Zero Waste Fest is completely cup-free (meaning no disposable cups)! We encourage attendees to BYOB (bring their own bottle)! As a bonus, Klean Kanteen will be providing each attendee a commemorative 10oz stainless steel cup when they REGISTER. Registrants will also receive a discount to Sports Basement, who is hosting the Resource Fair.

Your chance to win a Zero Waste Kit

To make the event more inclusive, rather than declare winners of the run, up to four event participants will have a chance to receive a full Zero Waste Kit! It includes an insulated Klean Kanteen bottle, camping mug, food canister, bulk shopping bag by Plastic Free Future, reusable glass straw and recycled metal utensils provided by Sea Hugger! Additionally, when attendees donate gently used hiking boots and running shoes, each donor will receive a 20% discount code from Klean Kanteen, which is valid for up to one year after the race.

Top environmental organizations at the Resource Fair (all linked below)

More than a dozen environmental organizations will be providing sponsored activities, a zero waste award ceremony, and educational booths at the Resource Fair: Race to Zero Waste, Sports Basement, Value Culture, Sea Hugger, The Northern California Recycling Association, Resilience Birthright (Eco Superhero), ReusableSF, City Surf Project, Yoga Kaivalya, San Francisco Environment Department, Simple., Rainbow Grocery, Zero Waste Youth, Surfrider Foundation, Zero Waste Sonoma, Guayakí Yerba Mate, ReusableSF, and Stainable Ink.

To benefit Race to Zero Waste and expand Pop-ups

All proceeds will help Race to Zero Waste further advance its newly formed Zero Waste Station Pop-ups and develop community toolkits. These pop-ups, run by dedicated volunteers, have been a great success in many Bay Area locations such as Ocean Beach, Mission Bay, Dolores Park, and more.  With the help of trained community organizers, volunteers sort their waste, learn about zero waste principles, and ensure that waste is diverted from landfills.

Why Cup & Bib-Free?

With a Cup-Free Fun Run, we’re making a statement about event waste and resource use. We’re showing that a run can happen without lots of little single-use cups. We will have water, so bring your reusable bottle to refill or use the Klean Kanteen cup that you get with registration!

FUN Run – No Timers

Race to Zero Waste will not be keeping runners’ time. For this event, we are encouraging runners to dress up and have fun! As part of our efforts to reduce waste, no bibs or timing chips will be offered. For those who wish to time their 5k run, please use your preferred running apps or smart watches to track your time yourself. We will absolutely celebrate with you when you cross the finish line! Come out and help us prove that reusables can win!

Past Cup-Free Runs

Since 2015, Race to Zero Waste has organized a few Cup-Free Runs at Crissy Field in collaboration with All One Ocean. These inspired the Zero Waste Fest idea, and was the precursor to Race to Zero Waste’s popular Zero Waste Station Pop-ups!

Can’t attend? Donate!

We are grateful to have supporters from around the world. If you’re unable to attend this in-person event in San Francisco, you can still donate to help us further develop our Zero Waste Station Pop-ups and community toolkits! Donate here. Thank you!
